The Sylvers - Only One Can Win

J Dilla was a genius.

Take one old 70's record...

And make it into the ruffest hip-hop tune. As featured on his album 'Donuts', I could listen to this on repeat all day...

L.T.D. - Love To The World

Pure bad funk. Released 1976.

I'm sure the harmonies in the intro have been sampled in a hip-hop tune but I can't put my finger on it.

Wait for the drop around 3 mins...

Update...

Randomly listening to some tunes and found the one that samples that harmony. 'Ladder of Success' by DJ K.O.

Visioneers - Dirty Old Hip Hop

Marc Mac, aka 4 Hero, is one of my favourite producers and under his Visioneers guise he has created a jazz infused hip hop album you just don't want to miss.

Marc produced the album to pay respect to the great hip hop producers that have influenced him. Jazzy Jeff, Jay Dee and Pete Rock introduced him to jazz and Marc's own take on it is really fresh and inventive.

The album is studio based and has allowed Marc to re-make true classics such as Nas 'The World Is Yours' and Pharcyde’s 'Runnin'.

This is the track 'Ike's Mood I'...

El Michel's Affair - Sounding Out The City

El Michel's Affair play instrumental funk, the kind of stuff that sounds like it was recorded way back when but it's not, it's all brand new.

'Sounding Out The City' has an old school soul-jazz feel, but with a new school hip-hop vibe. It's all recorded live and it's all about the soul, funk and jazz.

This video clip is of their version of Wu Tang's 'C.R.E.A.M', unfortunately not featured on the album, but it gives you an idea of what you're in for...

9th Wonder and Buckshot - The Formula

9th Wonder and Buckshot's album 'The Formula', released in April, is hip hop that's soulful, jazzy and smooth.

It's no surprise really as 9th Wonder has produced for the likes of Erykah Badu.

One of the highlights of the album has to be 'No Future'...

N.E.R.D - Seeing Sounds

Brand new from N.E.R.D. 'Seeing Sounds' was released last month.

I'm not sure I like this album as much as 'Fly or Die', however, there is one tune that is pure funk called 'Yeah You. I just love the jazz vibes...

Pete Rock & CL Smooth - Main Ingredient

Soulful hip hop from way back. Released in 1994, 'Main Ingredient' stands the test of time.

The group split in '95 and Pete Rock has gone on to be regarded as one of the greatest hip hop producers of all time. Great to listen back to his early beats.

This is 'Take You There'...

J.Rawls and Middle Child 'Rawls and Middle'

'Rawls and Middle' is a soulful and smooth mixture of hip hop and soul.

Released earlier this month, it's one you don't want to miss.

J.Rawl has produced for Talib Kweli and Mos Def which tells you everything you need to know about the production of this album.

With Middle Child adding fantastic vocals it really is quality.

Here's a track called 'Useless'...
